NEIGHBOURS/ LES VOISINS
Neighbours/ Les Voisins is a short performance piece designed for gallery presentation that combines dance, performance, installation and film. It uses Norman McLaren’s classic short film, Neighbours, and Henrik Ibsen's Hedda Gabbler as its foundational "texts".
Two women interact in a built domestic space within the gallery. Their physicality echoes the stop-motion animation of McLaren’s film. They gossip, revealing deep insecurities about home and domesticity.
Ring O' Rosie first workshopped this piece during a director's workshop in Halifax. After two years on the back burner, we workshopped the piece in Montreal, and brought it to Peterborough's Precarious Festival November 2017.
